Jon’s Background

Jon LehmannMy Denver roots run deep.  My great-grandfather lived in District 1 in the 1940′s and 1950′s, my mother grew up in east Denver and I was born and raised in southeast Denver.  Both my mother and I attended and graduated from Denver Public Schools.  After receiving a B.A. in Environmental Studies from CU in Boulder, I worked out of the country and in Washington, D.C., but returned to Colorado to attend law school at CU.  Living and working outside of Colorado strengthened my desire to return home and serve this community.  I settled in Sunnyside in April 2006.

Public service is a core value for my family and one that I have practiced throughout my life.  My parents were deeply involved in the Denver community and active volunteers.  They taught me to view my life through the lens of what I can do to help improve my community.  My father was a former Assistant City Attorney for Denver focusing on child welfare and human services.  My mother actively participated in the League of Women Voters, the PTA and currently serves District 4 as its City Councilwoman.  Watching and learning from my parents’ example of service and sacrifice has reinforced my desire to be of service to our District and our City.

Public service is a value that has guided my career and volunteer commitments.  I practice environmental law in Denver at Lindquist & Vennum, PLLP.  I am a leading voice in the House District 4 Democratic Party, serving as Captain from 2007-2009 and as the organizer of the Annual Spaghetti Dinner.  I served as an active member of the RTD Gold Line Issue-Focused Team, and recently accepted an invitation to be a member of the 2010 Community Advisory Committee for Denver Parks and Recreation.

I take great pride in my service to the City of Denver.   If elected, be assured that I will carry the voice of our community and stand up for what is fair.  I would be honored to represent you as the next City Councilman for District 1.
