DENVER NATIVE AND ENVIRONMENTAL ATTORNEY JON LEHMANN JOINS RACE FOR CITY COUNCIL

Upstart candidate brings energy and advocacy toDenver City Council District 1 Special VacancyElection to be held May 4, 2010

(DENVER) – Northwest Denver resident and public service advocate Jon Lehmann has officially entered the race for the newly vacated Denver City Council seat in District 1. Lehmann confirmed today that he will run, citing his record of community advocacy and his lifelong passion for public service and the city of Denver.

“A strong council voice is essential in order for District 1 to not simply participate but provide leadership as Denver grows into the future,” Lehmann said. “In these challenging economic times, it is imperative that we protect and enhance our community’s resources. This is my commitment to our District and the mission of this campaign: To make the northwest community a vital part of Denver’s municipal government and life.”

Lehmann, who practices environmental law at Lindquist and Vennum, PLLP, has been a leading voice in the House District 4 Democratic Party. In addition, Lehmann has served as an active member of the RTD Gold Line Issue- Focused Team. He also recently accepted an invitation to serve on the 2010 Community Advisory Committee for Denver Parks and Recreation.

Lehmann is no stranger to Denver politics. The son of Peggy Lehmann, current City Councilwoman for District 4, has been involved in community action and municipal government for much of his life.

“Public service is a core value of my family and one that I have practiced throughout my life. My parents consistently demonstrated the virtue of developing and enhancing the community. It has always been part of my life to view our community through the lens of what we can do to improve it. I will strive to serve my neighbors in Northwest Denver and continue to make our community a sustainable and desirable place to live, work and raise a family.

I pledge to protect District 1′s interests in the current budget crunch and to focus on the balance between new demographics and the historic character of Northwest Denver. Unity of purpose is the way forward, with the guiding principles of open communication, fresh ideas and hard work. That’s what public service means to me.”

Lehmann is a graduate of Denver Public Schools and the University of Colorado.

The Special Vacancy Election for Denver City Council District 1 is a mail-in ballot only election, with the ballots being mailed out in mid-April and due by Election Day, May 4, 2010.
