Safety and community awareness are significant concerns for me and the District.  Creating an open, available and collaborative office will help to address many of the safety issues.  I will strive to create two things: (1) an office where residents and business owners in District 1 feel comfortable so that they communicate quickly and easily any concerns they have; and, (2) a close working relationship with the police, sheriff and fire departments so that we can quickly and efficiently address any safety concern of a resident or business owner in District 1.  These goals are essential to creating a safe District 1.

In speaking with residents of District 1, I want to continue building the relationship between the District 1 office and the neighborhood organizations.  One example of this is to create one central, on-line and publicly-accessible calendar so that the residents and business owners know where to send information and where to find information about meetings, events and programs taking place in the District.  In addition, I want my office to use the web, email, Facebook and other technological devices to increase communication so that we can reach all residents and business owners in District 1.

Safety also relates to the character and charm of Northwest Denver.  As residents of Northwest Denver, one of the most attractive aspects of our community is that we know our neighbors and we lookout for each other.  I want to help foster this reality for our community so that we all work together to reduce crime throughout the District.  If we can look out for our neighbors and they for us, neighborhood crime will dramatically decrease.

Finally, as I was walking door-to-door I learned about Inspiration Point Park.  It is a beautiful park in the northwest portion of District 1 with incredible views and what looks to be one of the best sledding hills in Denver.  As I visited with residents, I learned that families do not send their kids to play in the park because it is not safe due to drugs and crime occurring in and around the park.  At a minimum, they suggested getting a playground which might bring families together, populate the park and push the criminals and drug-dealers away.  I will focus on removing drugs and crimes from our community.
